What is an event memory capsule?

Each piece is a physical capsule that contains information about the participants of a specific event:

first names and surnames of the participants,
date of the event,
a short text (for example a motto, dedication or description of the occasion).

This data is written as a DNA sequence, then enclosed in a set of durable materials to create one ready-to-present memory capsule.

Standard promotional gadgets are interchangeable and quickly become repetitive.

The event memory capsule is not just another item with a logo – it is a data carrier about specific people and a specific day, recorded in the form of DNA.

Why is it different from a regular gift?

Participants’ data, not only a logo – each capsule contains information about the people who created the event.
DNA-level storage – the information is encoded in synthetic DNA, a data medium with very high density and extremely long life.
Durable construction – a multi-layer capsule made of titanium, borosilicate glass, resin and anodised aluminium.
Symbolic form – one capsule becomes a tangible “archive” of the event.

For what kinds of events are memory capsules used?

Memory capsules work wherever people, the date and a symbolic preservation of the moment are important. They are most often used for:

conferences and congresses,
jubilee galas and corporate ceremonies,
official openings (offices, facilities, investments),
educational and academic events,
public and local-government ceremonies,
selected private events, anniversaries and oaths.

How is a memory capsule created?

The process is designed to be as simple as possible for the organiser and does not require technical knowledge.

Steps:

After the event (or just before it), you send us a data set: first names, surnames and the short text that should be placed in the capsule.
The data is encoded into DNA, placed in a multi-layer capsule and prepared in a form ready to be handed over as a gift or used in a ceremony.
We deliver the finished capsules by the agreed deadline. They can be given as gifts or included in the event scenario (for example as part of an opening act).

What value does an event memory capsule provide?

For organisers:

emphasising the unique character of the event,
the ability to stand out from standard event formats,
a consistent, symbolic element of the ceremony,
an object that can be kept for years in a visible place (for example at the company or institution headquarters, in an office).

For participants:

Technology in brief

Information about participants is first converted into digital form and then encoded into a synthetic DNA sequence. This kind of carrier has very high data density and allows multiple copies of the information to be prepared at the encoding stage.

The DNA is placed on the bottom of a borosilicate glass vial, closed in a titanium capsule filled with a noble gas (argon). The whole is then additionally secured with resin and placed in a tube made of anodised aluminium.

Reading the information from the DNA requires specialised laboratory methods used today in molecular biology. For the purposes of this product, it is not necessary for the organiser or participants to have such infrastructure – the capsule itself acts as a material, symbolic memory of the event.

What does the set consist of?

Synthetic, dried DNA is applied to the bottom of a glass vial. Protected with a noble gas – argon – it is sealed in a tight titanium capsule. The capsule is embedded in epoxy resin. The whole is placed in a screw-top tube made of anodised aluminium, lined with anthracite polyurethane foam.

Customisation options and product details

Colours to choose from. Due to different display technologies, the colours on the screen may differ from the real colours. If you choose a mix of colours, the colours are selected at random.

*Note – a text laser-engraved on aluminium oxidises over time, which changes the contrast.

By default, the tubes are supplied without any prints.

Approximate dimensions: 45x65mm

Inside: anthracite (dark grey) polyurethane foam.

The resin cast has matt fields labelled: DATE / NAME / TEST, where you can add your own information, e.g. with a permanent marker.

As standard, the lid contains a double insert. It allows you to safely place, between protective layers, for example your own data card or information printed on archival paper. (Cards or additional information can be added by us after prior agreement with the client, at an extra cost.)

A small, transparent plastic label with a handwritten inscription can be embedded in the resin (20 × 10 mm, up to 10 characters). Colour of the label can be chosen. This option is free of charge.

Price list

For an order of at least 10 pieces, the price is 49 PLN per piece.

Example: first names and surnames of 10 people + event name and date (up to 200 characters) = 1990 PLN for the set. Each capsule contains the same information in the DNA. Shipping to an address in Poland is included.

For larger quantities there are discounts:

30 people (up to 600 characters) –39 EUR per piece
50 people (up to 1000 characters) – 29 PLN per piece

Product customisation by laser engraving is possible.

Individual projects are priced according to client requirements. For encrypted texts that look random, the price may change.

How to encode and decode text in DNA?

A short information sheet on this topic, printed on acid-free archival paper, is supplied with each capsule.

The resin may contain scratches, air bubbles and other small imperfections. They do not affect its protective properties. Thanks to the protection of dry DNA with a noble gas and isolation from the external atmosphere, it can survive, with minimal losses, for thousands of years.

How to remove the small capsule from the resin?

The simplest way is to use a chisel and a hammer. Take care when breaking the resin – wear safety goggles and gloves. Hold the capsule, for example in a vice. With this method, pieces of resin, often sharp, may fly several metres. If you have trouble unscrewing the titanium capsule, you can use pliers. The attached Teflon threads help to remove the vial from the capsule and the stopper from the vial.

The client receives information about the amount and properties of the synthetic DNA used in the project. The data refers to dry DNA, which is then dissolved in an appropriate buffer and divided among the number of pieces ordered by the client. Example data:

The resin acts as a protective layer. Bubbles, irregularities and matt areas are not defects and do not affect its function or durability.

The glass vial is closed with a stopper that is easy to remove using the attached Teflon thread.

The capsule can be stored at room temperature or in a fridge/freezer. Recommended temperature range: from +25°C to −90°C. Do not heat.

The current lead time is about 45 calendar days.
